Council Tax is calculated based on two factors: (1) your property's valuation band (Bands A to H, determined by the Valuation Office Agency based on 1 April 1991 values), and (2) the combined precept rates levied by your local billing authority, county council (in two-tier shire areas), police and crime commissioner, fire and rescue authority, and local parish council.
Council Tax bands in England and Scotland are based on property market values as of 1 April 1991. Bands in Wales are based on 1 April 2003 values.
Charges include billing authority requirements, county precepts, adult social care, and police/fire services.
